Signed into law on April 17, 2016, the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Program provides patients with an approved serious medical condition access to legal medical marijuana products for treatment of their condition.
This guide will cover the most important details for medical marijuana patients in the state of Pennsylvania.
Participating in the PA Medical Marijuana Program
Under the law, Pennsylvania residents who have a serious medical condition as certified by an approved physician, like ours at CCC, are considered medical marijuana patients.
They are eligible for certification on an annual basis, and are required to renew their certification with their doctor each year before their certification expires.
TIP: PA Patients do not need to go to the same physician to renew their medical marijuana patient eligibility. Patients can be certified by any state-approved physician in the PA MMJ program.

- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
- Anxiety disorders
- Autism
- Cancer, including remission therapy
- Chronic Hepatitis C
- Crohn’s disease
- Damage to the nervous tissue of the central nervous system (brain-spinal cord) with objective neurological indication of intractable spasticity, and other associated neuropathies
- Dyskinetic and spastic movement disorders
- Epilepsy
- Glaucoma
- HIV/AIDS
- Huntington’s disease
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Intractable seizures
- Multiple sclerosis
- Neurodegenerative diseases
- Neuropathies
- Opioid use disorder for which conventional therapeutic interventions are contraindicated or ineffective, or for which adjunctive therapy is indicated in combination with primary therapeutic interventions
- Parkinson’s disease
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Severe chronic or intractable pain of neuropathic origin or severe chronic or intractable pain
- Sickle cell anemia
- Terminal illness

PA MMJ Program Patient Eligibility

How to Become a PA MMJ Patient: 4 Steps
- First, Register on the PA MMJ Program’s registration website
- Schedule an online or in-person appointment at CCC to get certified
- Pay for your appointment, and separately your medical marijuana ID card
- Once you receive your ID Card, you can now visit any Pennsylvania dispensary to purchase legal medical marijuana products.
Information You’ll Need to Register
A patient who wishes to register in the program must show proof of Pennsylvania residency in the form of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license or a PA state ID card with their current address.
You must also provide a working email address for accessing your patient information and profile, and to receive important alerts about the program or your patient status.
How Much Getting a PA Medical Marijuana Card Costs

Renewing patients will often pay a lower fee than new patients, however all patients must also pay a separate fee to the PA Department of Health for the physical medical marijuana ID card. The cost of the card is $50.
Patients enrolled in certain government programs may qualify for a no-cost PA medical marijuana ID card. CCC also provides discounts to veterans and industry employees, and regularly offers discounts and special promotions to patients. For details, contact the CCC team at 888-316-9085.
How Long it Takes to Get a PA MMJ Patient ID Card
Your card will be mailed to the address on your PA license and PA Medical Marijuana Program profile approximately 7-14 days after your registration is submitted to the State.
TIP: You will not be allowed to enter or purchase marijuana from a PA dispensary until your physical ID card arrives.
Where Patients Can Purchase Legal Medical Marijuana
Once you have received your medical marijuana ID card in the mail, you can purchase medical marijuana at any dispensary in Pennsylvania. Patients are encouraged to contact a chosen dispensary directly before visiting to see if an appointment is required.
